"My Brooklyn" Indie Doc Returns to DUMBO Theater After Sold-out Week
Back in July we did a post about the making of an indie documentary film called My Brooklyn. After a sold out week-long run earlier this month, the film is screening again at reRun Theater in DUMBO from January 25-February 3rd. The film takes a look at some of the radical changes that have occurred in Brooklyn over the past 10 years. It has a specific focus on the city's newest initiative to clean up the Fulton Mall area of Downtown Brooklyn.
Here's a description:
Anderson takes a personal interest as a long-time Brooklyn resident when Downtown Brooklyn gets slated for urban renewal. The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, a nebulous public/private partnership, bolsters national chains and luxury high-rise condominiums, while eschewing oversight. Meanwhile, the Bloomberg administration brings sweeping changes to the area by rezoning land, offering tax abatements to wealthy developers and investors, and pushing out small businesses and longtime residents in the name of 'diversity.'
Also take a look at the trailer:
The upcoming screenings will have a host of special guests and talk-backs with folks like graffiti artist, Blake Lethem (aka KEO and Lord Scotch) and MIT historian Craig Wilder. And FiPS will be running an exclusive interview with both Kelly Anderson and Allison Lirish Dean next week. So get out there and check it out.
