MS 51 Student Starts PPW Tribute in Memory of Classmate

If you've walked along Prospect Park West in the last week, you may have noticed small stuffed animals affixed to the lamposts along the sides of the road, facing oncoming traffic. Last night, I saw two girls putting this one up at the corner of Garfield and PPW. One of the girls, Alison, is an 8th grader at MS 51, and was friends with Sammy Cohen Eckstein, the 12 year old boy who tragically died last week when he was hit by a van at Prospect Park West and Third Street. Alison started this project as a tribute to Sammy's memory, with the hope that it will remind people to slow down.

Did you know the speed limit in NYC is 30 m.p.h.
