[Gawked] in Park Slope

This is an ongoing series in which we attempt to bring you lots 'o different perspectives on what its like to *actually* live in Park Slope...from readers just like you (or not--that's the whole point).

This installment comes from Jill, a run-of-the-mill Park Slope resident who was gawked at NYM.

Yesterday, I had to go to NYM Hospital on 6th street to handle a non-life threatening, not-to-be-disclosed issue. 

Anyway, the woman collecting my blood pressure and fluid samples suddenly just stops speaking and stares at me.

Her: You look exactly like Ricki Jones

Me: Who is Ricki Jones?

Her (really slowly): Rick-eee...Jonesssss...

Me: Who the hell is Ricki Jones?

Her (rolling her eyes in horror at my stupidity): You don't know Ricki Jones? She won a grammy three years ago. She is a really famous singer and her father is really famous. She plays the piano too.

Me: I have no idea who you are talking about.

Her (getting really exasperated): How can you not know Ricki Jones!!! You look exactly like her. People must tell you that you look like Ricki Jones all the time.

Me (eying her like she is a crazy person who I really don't want to be taking my blood): Do you mean Ricki Lake?

Her: No I mean the really famous singer not the talk show host.

Me: Are you sure her first name is Ricki?

Her: Well...I'm not totally sure.  

Me: Do you mean Norah Jones?

Her: Yes! It's so weird how much you look like her.

Author's note: I think Norah Jones is 5'2'' and half-black. We look nothing alike.

Then the nurse pokes her head out of the room and announces that she is treating a grammy award winner. Three other women come running in and ask me if that is true. They were so sad when I told them I'm not Norah Jones...just her twin Ricki.

norah jones is half indian and her father is ravi shankar...
