Opinion expressed on this photo not necessarily that of the author.Has Park Slope finally moved past punchline and become a cultural touchstone?
In a recent piece on podcast phenom Serial, Forbes magazine helps explain the breakout hit to the uninitiated by using “Park Slope” not so much as the punchline it so often is, but more as shorthand for the kind of neighborhood where people who enjoy high-brow, NPR-sanctioned, Ira Glass-imprinted, true crime stories probably live. In describing the 12-part series (please let it be more, please let it be more), Forbes helps the reader "get it" by positing "...it’s almost as if Serial were designed to be consumed via earbuds on a subway commute from, say, Park Slope to midtown Manhattan."
But guess what, Forbes, you establishment motherfuckers! You don’t know us! Because this obsessed fan consumes Serial via earbuds in a subway commute from Park Slope to downtown Manhattan! Do some research before you use Park Slope to help explain something about public radio to your billionaire friends!
Whew, sorry about that. I’m just a little edgy. The next episode of Serial doesn’t air for like another 80 hours. I’ll be in a basement in Gravesend* until then, not sleeping and pouring over the Serial subreddit until Thursday at 6:00 a.m.
