FIPS Public Service Announcement: Urban Design Week 2011
Ok all you Jane Jacobaphiles, now's your chance. Got an objection, complaint, beef, grievance, unrealistic request idea on how to improve the physical landscape of New York City, well go ahead and throw those fingers into the urban planning pie.
The Institute for Urban Design (IfUD) (am I the only one who thinks they should have gone balls out and stuck with IUD?) is sponsoring a little competition. In it they are asking New Yorkers "where they see potential for improvement in the city's physical fabric, and then asks the international design community to respond to the challenges set forth by the public."
All of the down and dirty details are here.
I expect that IfUD was thinking was going to be a little slice of utopia, but I'm sure Park Slope will represent with some pretty kickin' Slope-centric suggestions. For example zoning restrictions on how many burger joints can be within a certain distance of one another. I'm sure that doesn't count. How about stroller lanes? That's too easy. Piggy backing off of Allison's UFO piece, why not a landing pad in the middle of Prospect Park? I say we welcome our neighbors from the final frontier, they'll feel totally at home here.
If you've got something good feel free to shoot that load all over the comments. And NBBL or SFS need not apply.
