FIPS + 2011...A Year By The Numbers

Happy 2012!

Despite the fact that I changed my major in college to avoid a math requirement because I was failing out of College Algebra, on rare occasions I do dig taking a look at the numbers. True this is mostly when other people are adding them the hell up for me, but still. 

Since all of you btchz played a giganto part in keeping FIPS alive and well all these years, I thought you might dig taking a look at the numbers too. 

So herewith are all of the interesting and semi-interesting stats I could pull together on everything that went down in 2011 in the world of F'd in Park Slope: 

TOTAL POSTS: 1,502

TOTAL PAGE VIEWS: 3,988,573

TOTAL COMMENTS: 12,400

TOTAL 'LIKES' (FOR COMMENTS): 10,200

MOST LIKED COMMENT: The award goes to Vienna 11215 for a comment on my Starbucks CEO Bashes Park Slope story. Basically, I was told to STFU, and apparently everyone loved it:  

Oh come off it, Erica! The guy is right, you know. Compared to the rest of Brooklyn, Park Slope is an enigma. How does he know this? Well Erica, unlike you, he grew up in Canarsie, Brooklyn, in the Bayview Housing Projects. He went to Canarsie High and graduated from there. His dad was a truck driver. Now, I am no particular fan of Starbucks, but as corporations go, they are certainly not as "evil" as, lets say, Shell oil or WalliMart!

You know, Park Slope is NOT the center of the universe, and it is NOT the navel of Brooklyn!
Park Slope is a very wealthy, privileged community surrounded by vast areas of desperate poverty and despair. Don't believe me? Here is a suggestion: Why don't you hop on your little "vintage" bicycle, and instead of bouncing up and down the oh-so-holy PPW bike lane, go take a ride out to Crown Hights, East New York, Brownsville, Canarsie, East Flatbush. Go ride down Linden Boulevard, around Stanton and Essex Streets. Take a stroll on Buffalo Avenue. Go hang around Pennsylvania Avenue and Flatlands Ave. Go stick you nose in to Canarsie High school or Thomas Jefferson HS. Say hi to Charly Barron in Brownsville.
Come on! You like using "urban slang" so much, you think it's soooo cooool to write in your fake "from the 'hood" stile- go check out the source! Go see what it's like being a mother in the Louis H Pink Houses, trying to buy some fresh vegetables on Linden Blvd, and then have to carry it up 8 flights of stairs, because the city has not fixed the damn elevator. Because it's not in the budget. And why not? Because the city is to busy giving away tax breakes to real estate developers, so Park Slopers can save 400,000 Dollars on taxes on their brand ass spanking new condos!
