Easy Bake Ovens Will Soon Be Available In Gender Neutral Colors!
Hey, Park Slope Parents! Looking to buy a holiday gift for little Thaddeus, who loves to cook kale patties? You no longer have to fear scalding gas stoves or the pesky gender stereotypes that kept him from using his little sister Penelope’s pink and purple Easy-Bake Oven. Soon there will be a unisex light-bulb-powered cooking device for BOYS.
That’s right, the makers of Easy-Bake Ovens have decided that heat-lamp baking is no longer just for girls. Starting this summer, they’ll sell a manlier version of their classic mediocre baking device so that boys too can have the experience of making creations which look nothing like they do on the boxes.
It all started with the efforts of 13-year-old McKenna Pope from New Jersey. After she decided that pink and purple were not fitting colors for her brother’s boyish exterior, Pope started an online petition for Hasboro to make a more gender neutral version of the Easy-Bakes. Two-weeks and 44,000 signatures later, Hasboro decided it was time for a redesign. Nearly two years after this all began, they plan to debut the new ovens, which will be black, silver and blue instead of the standard purple and pink. People, it takes some serious time to pick colors.
The unisex oven doesn’t actually hit shelves until summer, but we’re sure Thaddeus would be just fine with a hand-written “IOU” from Santa under the tree. Just leave out the pictures of your DIY Easy-Bake Oven creations from the 80s. We all know you got a little heavy-handed with the Bedazzler on those cupcakes.
