Dekalb Market Open For Business!

Photo via Mashid Mohadjerin / The New York Times

Because I recently watched all five seasons of Dexter over the course of just a few weeks, when I see shipping containers I think "big bloody crime scene" (side note: does anyone else think that the John Lithgow season was AMAZING, but they totally dropped the ball with the following Julia Stiles season? Ugh).

But this isn't a post about Dexter -- 22 shipping containers NOT containing dead bodies will host food, fashion and other retail vendors in this Saturday's grand opening of the much anticipated Dekalb Market!

Once a vacant construction site, the square block at 332 Flatbush Avenue Extension (near Willoughby and Gold Streets) will be open for business! Expect to see everything from pickle shops, retro shade shacks and plentiful veggie gardens. Market spokesperson Jessica Tolliver says of the project:

"The Dekalb Market will take advantage of what would otherwise be an unused plot of land adjacent to the Fulton Mall. We want to support small, local businesses and are excited to introduce a unique market to this already vibrant neighborhood."

All vendors will be open year-round from 11AM-5PM, but some will have longer hours because they care THAT MUCH MORE. We're looking forward to checking out this Installation over the weekend!
