Cool or Not Cool: Tweens Wearing Booty Shorts

Image via DodgeandBurn.Gawker.comWhile eating a Coltrane with veggie sausage from Dizzy's, I eavesdropped on some neighborhood moms discussing booty shorts.

"My husband would never let Sophia out of the house dressed in booty shorts like those kids."

"I don't blame him. Sexualizing little girls. So gross."

I imagined they were talking about children twerking on the monkey bars at Harmony Playground or strutting their sassy ASSets while picking out Organic Kale with their mommys at the Grand Army Plaza farmers market. I've never witnessed those happenings, or read about it on any of my PSP daily digests, but they could happen.

I agreed. It's not cool for tweens to wear booty shorts. That kind of rear gripping butt cheek exposing garment should be left to moms who no longer fit into their pre-baby size shorts but continue to wear them.

Upon further eavesdropping I learned that the Dizzy's moms were talking about photos they had seen from the recent Brooklyn Nets kids dance team. There is going to be kid dancers for the Nets?! Now, I'm not a big sports fan, but twerkin' tweens with moves like Jagger for the Nets?  Oh, yeah!  Bust a move!

In my fantasy life (which is pretty amazing, I gotta say) I asked the dining moms if they rail against the costume designer for Billy Elliot for letting the boy wear a leotard that makes him look likes he's smuggling grapes into the dance studio. I asked them if they think young cheerleading squads in their scantily clad uniforms resemble a pyramid of future ho-bags of America. Remember this is my fantasy life, in reality I finished my sandwich unbuttoned the top of my too tight post postpartum shorts, paid cash for my sandwich and left without saying a word.

What do you say? Cool or not cool?
