Can I hear 80K for a Parking Spot? And SOLD...

...To very desperate people looking for parking. That's correct FIPS'ters because of ramped up new development, garage spots are once again at an all-time premium up in this 'hood. What started with a $50,000 sale in April, followed by a $62,500 dollar sale in June has topped off with an $80,000 sale in July. I say again 80K for a 100-something square foot cement slap. My grandmother's one bedroom condo in Hackensack is literally worth half that. Yes, smart asses, I get it, it's Hackensack but at least it has a bathroom and a kitchen and storage AND A PARKING SPACE!

So anyway the transaction took place at the Garage Condominium located on Union right off of 7th Ave (next-ish to the Coop) which is already no stranger to price hiking sensationalism. Back in 1986 the very same garage made national news when it sold a spot for $29,000 to someone who didn't even own a car.  Also, according to DNAinfo, once the owners pay out the ass for the space, they get to pay out the ass to the tune of nearly $250 a month for maintenance fees. Honestly, I can't afford to go out to eat twice a week. Where does this money come from?

And this isn't even a hard sell! As a matter of fact, the 145-spot garage is actually completely full. After news broke that the 300-spot garage across the street was being demolished to put up people condos nervous parkers swormed. Howard Ponksy, the guy who started the Garage Condo, told DNAinfo: "People come to inquire [from across the street] but we have no room. We have great demand and no supply, so the prices are going up."

WHY? WHY? WHY do you ask? We all know the answer. There's no freekin' parking in the neighborhood (except in the summer). I mean besides the endangerment of park garages it also takes Park Slopers an average of a half hour to find a parking space.

But fear not, if you're looking for an alternative to this crazy financial bubble in Park Slope, I'm pretty sure $80,000 could buy most of Detriot right now.
