Brooklyn Nets Player Questioned In Sexual Assault Case

via the Associated Press

What happens in Philadelphia doesn't stay in Philadelphia for very long. Actually, when a professional basketball player is involved, it becomes headline news in a matter of hours.

Yesterday, multiple reports surfaced that an unnamed Brooklyn Nets player was being questioned in connection with an alleged sexual assault at the Philadephia Four Seasons Hotel that happend in the early morning hours. By 1PM, the Nets player in question was identified as forward Andray Blatche. He and three friends were questioned and then released. Blatche quickly took to the Twitter to address the situation, writing "I'm ok and I didn't do anything jus was n the area when it happened." Blatche then quickly deleted the tweet.

Fast forward to 6PM Tuesday evening as more news outlets begin to report on even more details. According the NY Times, Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey released at statement saying that Blatche "was there but not involved." Apparently, Blatche reserved a separate room for two of his friends at the hotel, one of whom is the alleged attacker. A CBS Philadelphia affiliate released this statement about what went down:

When they [Blatche and three friends] entered the room, sources say the four saw the accuser having sex with the second of Blatche’s two friends in a bedroom. Sources say when the first friend walked out of the bedroom, Blatche’s second friend went into the bedroom and also had sex with the accuser.

After the two were finished, the second friend joined the four others in the living room of the suite while the accuser remained in the bedroom. Moments later, officers knocked on the door and said they had a report of a rape.

All six at the hotel suite, including the accuser, were taken to the Special Victims Unit for questioning.

When speaking about the victim, Commissioner Ramsey told the Times, "She was so intoxicated. She is not going to be a very good witness." Now should the police commissioner really be saying that to the press? As for Blatche, he told reporters, "I had nothing to do with nothing. I'm just here to play basketball and I'm focused on the game tonight." Despite all of the drama, Blatche was able to keep that focus as The Nets beat the 76'ers 109 to 89.
