20 Signs You Grew Up in Park Slope

Buzzfeed recently gave us a list of 40 Signs You Grew Up in Brooklyn. We asked our resident native Slopie, Roshow, to narrow that down a bit. If you grew up here, holler in the comments with your own telltale signs.

1. You remember when Dizzy's was Park Town Coffee Shop and everyone called it Benny’s.

2. Pino's vs Smilie's pizza was a turf war not a palate war.
3. You played touch football on the street not in the park.
4. You've eaten at 7th Ave Donuts, un-ironically.
5. You "collected" and protected Jansport strings at all costs.

6. The bandshell was used primarily for handball during summer evenings.
7. You remember Comics Plus and all 3 locations where it resided.
8. You recognize the outdoor restaurant they're having lunch at in this video:
9. You were excited when the Pavillion opened.
10. Climbing the Lafayette statue at the 9th Street Prospect Park entrance by yourself was a life goal.

11. South Slope did not exist. You knew it as "Sunset Park."
12. You've defaced brownstones with eggs and/or shaving cream on Halloween.
13. Your parents could get you to do anything by promising a trip to Al's Toyland or Little Things.
14. The school was named Junior High School 51 not Middle School 51...
15. ...And choosing between IS 88 and JHS 51 was a major life decision.
16. You played in open fire hydrants when you were too old for the sprinklers in the park.
17. You had a bus pass.
18. You played 78th Precinct Little League.
19. You bought a Trapper Keeper at Save on Fifth, nunchucks at Tip Top and/or cassette tapes at the Record & Tape Center.

20. You trekked to the Grand Army Plaza library for a school project because everything was always checked out of the 9th Street library.
